The American Le Mans Series race at Laguna Seca in May 2010 will go down in the Series’ history as among the most hard-fought, tense races to date. After nearly six hours of nose-to-tail racing, Patrick Long measured the final restart perfectly, getting the inside line into turn 11 and onto the front straight, then out-dragging the BMW of Joey Hand in the run to turn one. Porsche Panorama, the official magazine of the Porsche Club of America, did a feature for its July issue about the race, and Porsche’s success.
Patrick Long finished 5th at the 2010 24 Hours of Le Mans, driving the #76 IMSA Performance MATMUT Porsche 911 GT3 RSR. Long and his teammates kept pace with the eventual winners until the halfway point in the race, when their clutch failed and they were forced to spend nearly 20 minutes in the garage repairing the car.
Flying Lizard Motorsports scored another dramatic GT victory at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca with Patrick Long winning in class by 0.365 seconds with Jörg Bergmeister over BMW’s Joey Hand. Long passed Hand on the inside of Turn 11 just as the green flag flew on the final restart with eight minutes left, a legal move. The race had been a knock-down, drag-out fight for its entire 6 hour duration, with eight different cars leading at one time or another – three Ferraris, two Corvettes, two BMWs and Long’s #45 Flying Lizard Motorsport Porsche 911 GT3 RSR. Long and Bergmeister claimed the championship lead with their second consecutive win, heading into the ALMS’ summer break for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Patrick Long and Jörg Bergmeister teamed to take a spectacular victory at the Tequila Patrón American Le Mans Series at Long Beach Saturday, after Long drove a blistering stint and raised himself from 3rd in class to 1st with two well-executed passes. Patrick Long, driving the #45 Flying Lizard Motorsport Porsche 911 GT3 RSR with Jörg Bergmeister and Marc Lieb, finished 4th in the GT class at the 58th running of the 12 Hours of Sebring. A bizarre incident involving the errant wheel of the sister Porsche of Team Falken ruined the Lizards’ chances at a podium finish when the team lost several laps in the pits.
