Ruby Tuesday Championship Racing Team Finishes Third at The Glen

August 11, 2006

AJR at The GlenWatkins Glen, New York — The Ruby Tuesday Championship Racing Team finished third today at Watkins Glen International Raceway for round 12 of the Grand American Rolex Series presented by Crown Royal Reserve for the Crown Royal 200.

Mike Rockenfeller started the number 23 Ruby Tuesday car from the second row and was able to hold his position throughout the first lap. Within the first 15 laps of the race there were three caution periods which bunched the field back up. On the fourth caution, at lap 31, Rockenfeller pitted the Alex Job Racing prepared Porsche Crawford and turned the wheel over to teammate Patrick Long.

Long returned to the battle in fourth and was able to retake the third spot by lap 47. The young Californian was having trouble matching the pace of the Lexus and Pontiac cars in front of him up the lengthy Watkins Glen back straight and had to settle for third.

Mike Rockenfeller was pleased with the Ruby Tuesday team’s podium finish. “The 01 and the 10 would really pull away from us down the straights. I could get up close in the braking zones on the restarts, but once they put together a couple of laps they would gap us with their straight line speed. I could really only hope that they would make a mistake and with no GT cars on the track to get in the way they ran clean and I had nothing for them.”

Patrick Long will take the team’s third consecutive podium finish. “We had a good run today. I could get close on the restarts, but not near enough to get in a position to make the pass cleanly. We really didn’t have the power for them down the two straights. The team has gotten into a groove and we have put together three good finishes in a row. The whole Ruby Tuesday crew is charged to have a good finish to the season.”

“We did all we could with what we had today,” said Alex Job, team owner. “Mike had a good start and we could maintain our position, but we really didn’t have that extra punch to make it a race at the front. This is our seventh podium finish on the year and with two more races to go the Ruby Tuesday team is looking to add more wins to our season summary.”

The third place today adds to the team’s season record of two wins, two seconds and three third place finishes.

Round 13 of the Grand American Rolex series will be a first time visit to Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California on August 26th.
