Testing Report: Rolex 24 at Daytona

January 10, 2011

Patrick Long joined Flying Lizard Motorsports at the official test for the Rolex 24 At Daytona this weekend, as the team made their prototype debut with the #45 Porsche flat-6 powered Riley Daytona Prototype chassis. For the race, Long will be joined by Jörg Bergmeister, Seth Neiman and Johannes van Overbeek. Having captured victory in the GT class at the 2009 edition of the race, Long is looking to claim his first major overall victory at the 2011 race. The team had a successful test, ultimately setting a fast lap of 1:40.697, solidly in the top ten amongst the DP competitors.

Long said, “I’m pleased with the progress that we made over the weekend in tuning the car. It’s been a steep learning curve to come right into it with a brand new car, but we definitely met our test objectives. We still have more on our list to try during race week; we’re leaving today feeling optimistic that we’ll have a solid racecar for the 24.”

He continued, “I’m excited to have the opportunity to go after the overall win at Daytona. We have a group of talented drivers who are also good friends and there’s a strong camaraderie. It’s never an easy task here at Daytona, but we know what it will take and just have to get down to it. It’s been a few years since I’ve been in a DP, and this is also my first time in a Riley.”

The 2011 Rolex 24 At Daytona will run on January 29-30. Television coverage begins at 3pm ET on Saturday, January 29 on SPEEDTV.
