Patrick Long finished both races of the Pirelli World Challenge doubleheader at Mid-Ohio in P9 this weekend, but retains 2nd place in the Driver’s Championship with five races left to run. He initially qualified the #58 Wright Motorsports Porsche 13th for round 14 of the championship, after heavy rains Friday scrambled the field and cut short track running. During the race, there were a series of caution periods which interrupted the running, and in the closing laps, Long was penalized for avoidable contact, compromising his run through the field. Long went on to finish 9th, which yielded his starting position for Sunday’s round 15. Sunday’s race was run entirely under green flag conditions, but critically the championship leader Alvaro Parente finished 14th on the day, limiting the points differential to second-placed Long.
Rounds 16 and 17 of the Pirelli World Challenge will be held August 12-14 at Utah Motorsports Campus. The FIA World Endurance Championship is next scheduled to race September 3 in Mexico City.
