P7 and P2 for Long at Lime Rock Doubleheader

May 29, 2016

Patrick Long had a competitive showing at Lime Rock Park in Connecticut this weekend, claiming P7 and P2 in the doubleheader for the Pirelli World Challenge rounds 10 and 11. In Friday’s race 1, Long and Andrew Palmer in the Bentley fought for the duration, and on a late charge, Long contacted Palmer, sending the Bentley off-course and was subsequently handed a drive-through penalty, dropping him from P3 to a finish of P7.

In Saturday’s race 2, winner Alvaro Parente held off a hard-charging Long for the duration to win by a scant 1.109 seconds. Tellingly, Parente and Long had pulled a gap of more than 16 seconds on the entire field in their one-on-one battle. Provisionally, Patrick slipped to second in the championship after 11 of 20 events. Next up for the Pirelli World Challenge is fan favorite Road America, held June 23-26, for another doubleheader. Next up for Long is the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
