On what turned out to be a spectacular weekend of racing at arguably the United States’ most scenic racetrack, Road America, Patrick Long closed the gap to the Pirelli World Challenge championship leader by finishing ahead of him in both races of the weekend doubleheader. Claiming a P4 and P5 respectively in Saturday and Sunday’s races, Long provisionally closed the gap to Alvaro Parente by 12 points on the weekend; Parente now leads on 1147 points, to Long’s 1095, with 7 races left to race in the championship. Further, both Long and Parente extended their points differential over 3rd-placed Johnny O’Connell.
Patrick will take a well-earned rest now, with both his full-time racing programs on their unofficial summer breaks. Next up is the FIA WEC round from Nürburgring, in Germany on July 24, followed by the Pirelli World Challenge doubleheader July 29-30 at Mid-Ohio.
