Long and Hybrid Porsche Dominant in China

November 08, 2010

Patrick Long capped a stellar year by driving the Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid to its first win in competition today at the International Le Mans Challenge 1000km of Zhuhai, China. Long and his teammate Jörg Bergmeister – who qualified the GT3 R Hybrid 2nd among all GT cars – drove a flawless race, and due to the innovative nature of the car, made only four pit stops in the race – one less than the next GT car – while completing three more laps than the winning GT car. Fielded by the factory Porsche factory from Weissach in Germany, the Hybrid, driven by Long and Bergmeister, ran in an experimental class, and managed to race faster and more efficiently than all the GT1, GT2 and GTC class cars.

“We came into this weekend with an open mind,” Long said. “We didn’t know where we would stand against GT2 or GTC. We saw at Road Atlanta that it was pretty hard work with the GT2 cars, so we wanted to go out there and run hard and reliable and hope that an efficient strategy would help us be the quickest GT car. It was mission accomplished.”

Patrick wishes to extend his thanks to all his partners and supporters in 2010: Porsche, Flying Lizard Motorsports, Michelin, Oakley, Troy Lee Designs, FRS Healthy Energy, ClubCorp and Speedware Motorsports.
