Patrick Long and Jörg Bergmeister, driving the #45 Flying Lizard Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, got bit by bad luck again at the American Le Mans Series Grand Prix of Mosport this past weekend, when a mechanical issue cost them several laps in the pits. Long’s teammate Bergmeister qualified the #45 in 3rd position, and pushed past the 2nd-place qualifying #55 BMW at the start and held P2 until the first caution period of the race, near the 45-minute mark. Typically stout pit work from the Lizard crew allowed Jörg to gain the lead during pitstops, and he would lead until a spin in turn 10 approaching the one-hour mark.
Bergmeister said, “I was approaching Turn 10 and a prototype braked hard and I had nowhere to go. I tried to avoid him but the car locked up and I spun.” Jörg settled back in and resumed his chase through the field from 5th position when he suddenly lost power steering and was forced to pit for repairs. Patrick assumed driving duties during the repairs, and came back out on track 7 laps down, placed 14th in GT. While he was able to make up two positions to finish 12th in class, the duo were unable to score any points.
Patrick and the Flying Lizard team race next at Mid-Ohio, August 5-6. A live stream of the race will be available on ESPN3.com at 3:15pm ET on Saturday, August 5.
