Patrick Long, Khaled Al-Qubaisi and David Heinemeier Hansson teamed to bring home the #88 Abu Dhabi-Proton Racing Porsche 911 RSR in 3rd place at the 24 Hours of Le Mans this weekend, placing highest of any GT-class Porsche in the classic race. The trio enjoyed a very competitive race, leading for long stretches. The podium finish marks Long’s fifth at Le Mans, including his two wins in 2004 and 2007 and memorable 2nd place finish in 2015 with Patrick Dempsey. Critically, the #88’s podium finish has elevated Al-Qubaisi and Heinemeier Hansson to second in the GTE-AM driver’s championship with six endurance races left to run. The FIA WEC takes a post-Le Mans breather now, and will reconvene July 24 at Germany’s Nürburgring. For Patrick, there’s no rest as he’ll be racing in the sprint format at Road America this coming weekend in the Pirelli World Challenge.
