Patrick Long raced this past weekend in the Central American GT Championship, at the La Guacima circuit, outside San Jose, Costa Rica, in a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Car. Long’s co-driver was Jacinto Peynado, of the Dominican Republic, and in qualifying for the weekend’s dual feature races, Patrick broke the track record, which had stood since 2004, then proceeded to lower it further yet. Starting from pole in both heat race, Long won his heat race as teammate Peynado took 2nd place in his; the results were two pole positions, the track record and an overall win for the duo.
Patrick said, “I had a total blast from the time I showed up in San Jose. The fun factor and the hospitality made it a very enjoyable experience – the success on track with the track record and the poles and wins was icing on the cake. The culture both at and away from the track in Costa Rica was ideal for an off-season experience, but it’s serious racing. There’s a lot of great teams and drivers that are very underrated on a world scale – they deserve a lot of credit. I hope to do a few more races in the series and thanks much to the whole Peynado team – I feel like I have a new family from the Dominican Republic.”
