Patrick Long and the Flying Lizard team continued their strong form with a solid run to 2nd place at MId-Ohio Sunday, marking the third straight race the team has finished 1st or 2nd. After his strongest qualifying result of the season in 3rd, Long drove a solid first stint, turning over the car to his teammate in P2; Bergmeister would challenge for victory but ultimately come home second by a scant 0.283 seconds.
Posting his best qualifying result of the season, Porsche works driver Patrick Long (USA) secured a good starting position for round six of the American Le Mans Series. Sharing the cockpit of Flying Lizard Motorsports’ Porsche 911 GT3 RSR with his works driver colleague Joerg Bergmeister (Germany), Long takes up Saturday’s race on the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course from third on the grid in the GT class. In an exciting qualifying session on the challenging race track close to Lexington in the US state of Ohio, Long was just a tenth of a second shy of the pole-setter.

Patrick Long and his teammates at Flying Lizard Motorsport were dogged by bad luck in their 24 Hours of Le Mans this year, with repeated damper problems taking a toll on the team and car. Long got caught out by gravel dragged directly across the track by another car in hour 10 of the race, causing him to spin off and impact the tire wall. Long was unhurt, but the #80 Porsche was retired soon thereafter.
Patrick Long finished preparations for the 2012 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans today, and will start the race 7th in GTE Pro with his teammates Jörg Bergmeister and Marco Holzer. The 24 Hours of Le Mans will be broadcast nearly in its entirety in the U.S. on SPEED, with coverage beginning at 8:30am ET on Saturday, June 16.
