On Sunday afternoon after 24 hours of hard-fought wheel-to-wheel racing, Patrick Long and Mike Skeen crossed the finish line together at the 51st Rolex 24 At Daytona. Long was behind the wheel of the Park Place Motorsports No. 73 Racing4Research Porsche GT, and Skeen was piloting the No. 72 Vess Energy Services Porsche GT3. After 24 grueling hours, they placed 16th and 14th respectively.
Back-to-back American Le Mans Series PC class champions CORE autosport will take on an additional challenge in 2013 with a Porsche 911 GT3 RSR GTE class assault headlined by Porsche factory star, Patrick Long and three-time Le Mans class winner, Tom Kimber-Smith. The new entry will be in addition to the team’s confirmed return to the PC class where team owner/driver Jon Bennett and young star Colin Braun are targeting CORE’s third consecutive championship.
In an odd race which would see Patrick Long drive both his normal #45 Flying Lizard Porsche as well as the team #44 car, Long went on to finish 5th and 7th in class. Sister Porsche team Falken Motorsport claimed their second straight win on the streets of Baltimore, cheering the Porsche faithful.
With a 2nd place finish at the scenic Road America course in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, Patrick Long and Flying Lizard recorded their third podium finish of the season on Saturday. In a race filled with caution periods, the Lizards started from 2nd position and led most of the race.
