Alex Job Racing/Emory Motorsports Win at Homestead

Homestead, Florida — Alex Job Racing/Emory Motorsports finished what they started at the Daytona 24 Hours by winning round three of the Grand American Rolex Series presented by Crown Royal Reserve at Homestead Miami Speedway today.

Mike Rockenfeller started the number 23/Alex Job Racing/10th and M Seafoods/Porsche/Crawford from the pole position only to lose the lead going into the first turn as a result of an over zealous competitor. The young German believed that the 39 car had jumped the start. When the series officials did not black flag the 39, Rockenfeller put his head down and passed for the lead just 14 laps later.

Once in the lead the duo of Long and Rockenfeller were only shuffled back in the order following pit stops. Strategy played heavy on the team’s success, team technical director Mike Evans called a near perfect race from pit lane, leaving the drivers with fresh tires at the end to post the first win in Daytona Prototypes, first win overall for the team as well as the Porsche/Crawford combination.

Patrick Long: "We had a great car, surrounded by a great team, with great strategy on top. I had to be a little foxy on the restarts because I new that the 39 car was coming. I was the team player today, in the end Mike did an awesome job in qualifying and we were able to complete what we started at Daytona. We worked hard all week on race setup and it paid off in the race with a consistent car that we new exactly the kind of performance we would get on long runs. Great win for the team and for Mike and me."

Mike Rockenfeller: "At the beginning I thought that the 39 car had jumped the start, but the series officials did not see it that way. I was able to catch him and pass a few laps later and we really never looked back. The strategy calls were great today. The pit stops were timed just right and we had the fresh car when we needed it, especially at the end. The team worked hard in the preseason to get the car to Daytona where we had a good run but could not finish it, today we did finish."

Alex Job: "We had perfect strategy today; Mike Evans really called a great race in the pits. Mike and Patrick ran a flawless race, really never putting a wheel wrong all night. The pit stops also went like clock work. At the end we had fresher tires than the 39 and 01 to take our first win in the Daytona Prototype series. We won the pole, ran the fastest race lap and won the race—it really doesn’t get any better than that in racing."

Round four of the Grand Am series will feature the Daytona Prototypes on the streets of Long Beach, California on April 8th.
