Alex Job Racing/Emory Motorsports Finishes Second at Long Beach

Long Beach, California — Patrick Long and Mike Rockenfeller, driving the number 23/Alex Job Racing/Emory Motorsports/hirewise/10th and M Seafoods/Porsche Crawford finished second today in round four of the Grand American Rolex Series presented by Crown Royal Reserve at Long Beach.

Thousand Oaks, California born Long started the Alex Job Crawford Porsche from the front row. At the start the young Porsche factory driver took a cautious approach to the notorious Long Beach turn one, coming across the start finish line for his second circuit of the the ocean side street course in third. That is when he went to work; passing for second and then on lap four taking the overall lead.

A full course caution on lap 10 had the team bring Long into the pits for a strategic driver change, putting Mike Rockenfeller behind the wheel. Rockenfeller rejoined the fray in third place as a result of the team having to add water to the Porsche during the pit stop. On lap 22 the race restarted, with Rockenfeller moving into second position just two laps later. The German Porsche pilot was not able to run down the winning 01 car and had to settle for the second step on the podium.

Patrick Long was happy to lead the race near his home town. "I was a little cautious at the start, but I wanted to prove I could get back in the lead. I picked off the 10 and then the 01 made a small mistake and I was able to get him under braking. Our car was really good in the transitions and braking zones. Mike did a good job to get back a place after our pit stop and bring it home in second."

Mike Rockenfeller was pushing the Crawford Porsche to the front. "Our pit stop took a few seconds longer to add water, and when you do that the top teams like the 01 and 10 will make you pay. I was able to get back by the 10 car, but the 01 just had the legs on me today. On the last restart I was trying to set him up going into turn one, but I got into hard and flat spotted my tires a little bit and then he was able to open up a gap. We had a good car, but this was a funny race, being shorter than usual and the yellows."

"We had three lengthy caution periods and in a 90 minute race that can take up a lot of running time," said Alex Job. "Patrick did a great job at the start to retake the lead for the team and show his stuff in front of his hometown fans. We had to add a little water the car and that cost us a few seconds in the pits and the 01 and 10 beat us back out. It is nice to show that we can run at the front on just about any type of track, VIR will be another venue where we should be strong."

Mike Rockenfeller put in the fastest race lap with a time of 1:20.111 with an average speed of 88 mph.

Round five of the Grand Am series will be run on April 23rd at Virginia International Raceway.
